Welcome to Blackhawk, Hiking and Biking Members!
We are gearing up for another fantastic season of biking and hiking while building our community and enjoying the great outdoors at Blackhawk. Please read the following orientation letter before coming out to the club.
First we need you to sign our club waiver prior to coming out to the club. Your vehicle tags will be mailed out at the end of the month, and while it's okay to ride w/out a tag, the waiver must be signed before using the facility. Thanks! Here is the link! Blackhawk mission: Whether you are new to the club this summer or have been biking and hiking for years, our mission has remained the same: to promote outdoor recreation, sports, and competition. Blackhawk has been instilling in young people a life-long love of outdoor sports since 1947. What started as a gathering of ski jumpers has grown into a year-round multi-sport club.
Membership: All users require a membership; we do not have guest or day-passes. All members must display current car tags in vehicles and wrist bands must be visible. New members to the club will receive tags and/or annual stickers. We hope you enjoy hiking and biking this summer – and consider staying for skiing next winter! Please note our Hiking/Biking memberships are year-round but shift to Snowshoeing and Fat Tire Biking in the winter. Skiing (alpine, cross-country and jumping) requires a new membership in the fall but includes Hiking and Biking year-round as well.
Dogs: We love our furry friends. Dogs at Blackhawk must be under control at all times and on leash in parking areas, near buildings and whenever encountering other club members using the facility. Please avoid bringing your pooch during busy hours and during programming. Dogs are not allowed on snow during winter.
Hiking trail maps location? Hikers are encouraged to use the wide, grassy cross-country ski trails, roads, and biking trails that are designated for multi-use. Hiking/running on designated mountain bike trails can be dangerous for hikers and bikers alike. Bikers must avoid grass hiking trails, including descending hill#6.
Biking/Hiking/Running Etiquette: Whether biking, hiking or running, please be courteous to each other. The trails are shared among bikers, hikers, and runners, beginners and experts, new and seasoned members, children, youth and adults.
1.Ride Safely. You’re responsible for avoiding objects and people. Ride within your ability. Start small and work your way up.
2.Protect Yourself. Use an appropriate bike, helmet, and protective equipment.
3.Know the Trails. Conditions change constantly; plan and adjust your riding accordingly.
4.Stay on Designated Trails. Stay on trails and ride in the direction indicated. Avoid riding on the roads. Bikers must avoid grass hiking trails including descending hill#6.
5.Respect our Trails. Do not ride when trails are wet or closed for maintenance.
6.Be Visible. Do not stop where you obstruct a trail, feature, landing, or are not visible.
7.Look and Yield to Others. Stop when crossing roads and yield to riders coming up a trail. When overtaking, use caution and say, “passing on your left.”
8.Communicate. Tell us if you see unsafe conditions or riders or are involved in or witness to an accident. Contact our Trails Director (firstname.lastname@example.org) and the Board (Board@blackhawkskiclub.org)
Volunteering: Our club wouldn’t be what it is today without the help of YOU! We rely 100% on volunteers to keep our trails in shape. Weekly work crews will be added as the season progresses and would welcome anyone to join us. To learn more about more volunteer trail opportunities, contact email@example.com. Bike Ambassadors help promote safe riding, and answer member questions. Interested in joining our crew? All you have to do is come and ride for 2 hours each week. Water, bathrooms, tools: Water is available at the pump on the west side of the East Chalet, near the playground. Directions for using the pump are posted. Portable toilets are available at the East & West Chalet and the Biathlon parking area. New bike station at West Chalet trail head! Pump and basic tools are available at the West Chalet trailhead. The West Chalet is closed for the summer except for club programs.
Gates are locked from sunrise to sundown. If you see activities unrelated to outdoor sports or unsafe behavior of any kind, please say something – either directly to the people or contact our Trails Director (firstname.lastname@example.org) or the Board (Board@blackhawkskiclub.org). If you have concerns about illegal activity, please call the county sheriff non-emergency line (608) 266-4948 or dial 911 for an emergency.
Parking info: Parking lots are at the East and West chalet when the gates are open; parking is allowed in front of the east gate at other times while keeping the road clear. Parking is also allowed on the grass lot near East/West connector. Parking at base of ski jumps and near biathlon haus is reserved for practices but may be used at other times (see schedule below).
Club Calendar: You are always welcome to ride at the club, but keep in mind there are times that will be busier than others. Always yield to young riders, hikers, and runners when on the trails.
