Private Alpine Ski / Snowboard Lessons
Private alpine skiing and snowboarding lessons are available to any Blackhawk member with a Full Access membership.
We can provide private alpine ski and snowboard lessons to skiers of all ability levels, from the very beginner to the most advanced skier or snowboarder. All of our instructors are experienced and have proven themselves in our group lesson program. We pair instructors with students based on the instructor's experience and specific strengths, as well as the student's specific needs.
We are able to accommodate students of all ages, as well, from very young children, all the way up to senior skiers. While our group lessons are focused on kids, we have many private lesson instructors who are excellent teachers of adult students.
Scheduling Lessons
Private lessons can be scheduled any time the hill is open and the Ski and Snowboard School doesn't have a group lesson scheduled. We schedule most lessons for Saturday and Sunday afternoons (after group lessons end). Some students opt for recurring lessons, but in most cases, we schedule lessons week-to-week (usually about a week in advance). This allows us to align with weather and hill conditions, and accommodate instructor availability.
Lesson Costs
The cost for a lesson is $50.00 per hour for the first participant and $25.00 per hour for each additional participant, so you can request a completely private one-on-one lesson or put together your own group.
For more information or to schedule private lessons, contact our private lessons director, Guy Perez, at privatelessons@blackhawkskiclub.org.
Private Nordic Ski Lessons (Classic and Skate)
Private Nordic ski lessons, classic and skate skiing are available to any Blackhawk member with a Limited Access membership.
We can provide Nordic ski lessons to skiers of all ability level, for students of all ages, from very young children to senior Nordic skiers.
Moving swiftly down the trail looks like the perfect way to be outdoors in the winter, but strapping on the skis and making it happen can be frustrating without some guidance. Or maybe you are a seasoned skier but wonder if there are things to change that would make you more efficient or confident? For kids, group lessons fill up fast but you don’t want to wait another season before they get on skis. A private or small group lesson may be just what they need to get started.
Instructors
All of our instructors have previous teaching experience as well as a long list of ski races, tours and years on skis. They are volunteers but are given a portion of the lesson cost as a stipend for coming out and teaching others to ski (something they all enjoy!).
Equipment
For adults, you will need to provide your own skis, poles, boots and wax. If using wax classic skis, please have skis prepped for the conditions. If you do not know, ask your instructor prior to coming out. Please arrive in time to be on the trail and ready to ski at the lesson start time. For kids, a one-time rental is included in the lesson cost. Please allow 20 minutes for fitting. Your instructor will assist you. If you wish to rent at other times at Blackhawk, an additional fee and (simple) training on the trailer procedure is needed. Contact Amy for more information.
Location
All lessons take place starting at the biathlon haus which is located at the bottom of hill#2. To access you either need 4-wheel drive or walk down from the West Chalet along the tree line. For kids renting gear, the trailer with the gear is just past the biathlon haus near the machine shed.
Pricing and Payment
Individual lessons are $40/hour and Group lessons (up to 4) are $60/hour. We recommend an hour for optimal learning, but can adjust for young children or other needs. Payment must be made at the conclusion of the lesson via cash, check or venmo @BlackhawkSkiClub.
Scheduling
Lessons are coordinated by the XC Private Lesson Coordinator (Amy Grunewald Mattison) and can be arranged at xcprivatelessons@blackhawkskiclub.org. When inquiring, please dates/times for possible lesson, name of skier, youth (please provide age) or adult, technique (classic or skate) and goal of lesson as well as contact text/phone number.
Private Mountain Bike Lessons
Private mountain bike lessons are available to any Blackhawk member with a current membership.
The Blackhawk Mountain Bike School offers private lessons to students at a very beginner to an intermediate level riding ability. We also offer private lessons to riders of all ages. We will pair rider ability and age with an instructor experienced in teaching students of that ability and age. While our group lessons are focused on kids, we also have private lesson instructors who work with adult students. Our lesson format and structure follows the general progression of our group lessons: 1. Gaining comfort in an off-road setting: proper stance and body position, braking, and balance. 2. Intro to turning and banked turns. 3. Intro to hills: Climbing and descending. 4. Intro to rollers. 5. Intro to jumping. Students can elect to have an emphasis in any of these areas and can also elect to skip others.
Scheduling Lessons
Private lessons can be scheduled any time the Youth Mountain Bike Lesson program doesn't have a group lesson scheduled and the trails are open for riding. Private lessons are generally scheduled one at a time, but can also be set up on a recurring basis throughout the season.
Lesson Costs
The cost for a lesson is $40.00 per hour for the first participant and $20.00 per hour for each additional participant, so you can request a completely private one-on-one lesson or put together your own group.
