Blackhawk Ski Club (Middleton,Wisconsin) is hiring for the above positions. Will also consider individuals or groups to provide services in areas listed above on contract basis for the provision of these services.

Blackhawk Ski Club is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) multi-disciplinary private club with youth educational programs and competitive teams in alpine skiing, nordic skiing, ski jumping, biathlon, and mountain biking. The Club relies on both volunteers and contracted coaches to run the various programs and maintain facilities and equipment. The Club sponsors special events, classes, competitions, and various other related functions on the property. The Club property consists of approximately 62 acres at the headwaters of Black Earth Creek and connects to trails on adjacent properties including Pleasant View trails and Pope Farm Conservancy. 

 

Lead Snowmaker and Groomer: late October 2021-early March 2022

The Club is seeking a Lead Snowmaker and Groomer beginning in late October and ending in early March. This position requires working when conditions are favorable for making snow, pushing snow out, and grooming snow for alpine and nordic skiing and ski jumping. Hours are estimated to average 40 hours per week, with more hours occurring during long snow making runs. Must be available for entire season and able to work nights, weekends and holidays. The position

answers directly to the Facilities and Operations Chair and shall be responsible for the following:

  1. Lead the operation of snowmaking equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources for alpine and nordic skiing and ski jumping.

  2. Oversee and create schedule for 1-2 other snowmakers during a shift to ensure proper safety and execution of required tasks.

  3. Produce quality snow through the use of air, water, and fan equipment, including:

    1. Provide relocation of fans, snow guns, and hoses to various areas around the hill

    2. Adjust, turn, or move snow guns and fans to maintain snowmaking efficiency

    3. Adjust the water and or air flow to snow guns

    4. Change nozzles on snow guns when necessary to maintain efficiency

    5. Change filters on water lines to maintain efficiency

  4. Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment, includingc hecking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption, and diesel fuel systems

  5. Document and report mechanical/safety issues, complete maintenance logs and checklists

  6. Shovel snow, remove snow around snowmaking equipment and other areas around the club as needed

  7. Maintain all safety barriers, padding, and guards aroundsnowmaking equipment

  8. Work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment, high voltage, and high water pressures

  9. Perform other duties as assigned while waiting for optimum snowmaking weather

10.Work closely with and assist other departments such as Grooming, Ski Patrol, Program Directors

11.Test the quality of snow as it is made, reporting findings and conditions to the Facilities Chair

12.Safely operate snowmobiles, trucks and UTVs as necessary
13.Work evening and night schedules when optimal temperatures provide for the best snowmaking

14.General facility maintenance, including coordinating weekly cleaning of the West Chalet during winter and twice monthly all other times of year.

15.Coordinate service of portable toilets.
16.Removef trash and recycling from chalets and coordinate trash/recycling services.
17.Arrange for professional plowing when necessary. Provide additional snow removal as needed. Work with Volunteer Coordinator for additional plowing.
18.Assist with Equipment maintenance, repair, and preparation for daily use.

19.Push out snow using grooming equipment.

20.Arrange schedule for daily grooming of alpine runs, nordic trails and ski jump outruns.

Snowmaker: November 2021-February 2022

  3. Adjust the water and or air flow to snow guns

  4. Change nozzles on snow guns when necessary to maintain efficiency

  5. Change filters on water lines to maintain efficiency

  6. Work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment, high voltage, and high water pressures

  1. Drive snowmobiles, trucks and UTVs as necessary

  2. Work evening and night schedules when optimal temperatures provide for

    the best snowmaking

  3. Able to perform duties with limited supervision to provide relief for Lead Snowmaker
