June 2024 Newsletter

As the summer heat descends upon us, we’re enjoying seeing so many of you on the trails and otherwise enjoying the property! We have a lot going on this summer-dates are shared at the end of this newsletter.

One thing we wanted to note is that we’re hoping to find a member who is an attorney and is willing to answer occasional Board of Directors’ questions (about twice a year). Please contact Rick Hardy (rick.hardy@blackhawkskiclub.org) if you’re able to help!

Mountain Biking Updates

Remember to dog owners that if you’re on the trails with your dog when others are on the trails riding, hiking, or running, your dog must be leashed. When you’re on the trails, you may on occasion see a dog off leash, whose owner will need to put the dog back on leash when they see you.

Weekly Thursday Evening Club Rides!

Our Thursday Club Rides at 6pm are for members of all ages and abilities and run through August.

  • Meet at the Eastside trailhead at 6pm.

  • Ride for 1-2 hours.

  • Stay after riding to socialize and snack!

Questions? Want lead a ride? Email us at bike@blackhawkskiclub.org.

Westside Trail Improvements

“Ziggy Down” is an easier trail that goes from the West Hub down to the Springs Trail, and we are working to provide a truly “green” option. The blue “Don’t Worry” climbing trail now goes under the wooden jump on Be Happy. It’s a vigorous climb but worth the effort. Finally, the Pines Jump Line has been revitalized. Remember to “Pre-Ride, Re-Ride, then Free-Ride!”

Become a Ski Patroller at Blackhawk-Classes Start July 11!

Spots remain in our Outdoor Emergency Care training class, which starts Thursday, July 11! Classes are Thursdays 6-9pm, concluding with an exam in November.  Interested? email Rob Kudrle, Ski Patrol Director, at skipatrol@blackhawkskiclub.org or  visit our Patrol web page: https://blackhawkskiclub.org/ski-patrol

Summer Biathlon Updates

Summer biathlon has begun. We have 20 middle and high school biathletes participating in our summer program. A number of these athletes have also gone to biathlon camps in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Our lead traps have been delivered. Once frames are built, they will be installed. This will greatly reduce the amount of lead in the area around the targets.
