Our winter season is behind us and spring is here. Unfortunately, due to the current health crisis, there are a lot of unknowns. However, as a board, we wanted to take a moment to reach out to you and share what we do know.
Our current plan is to remain open so members can come out and hike the grounds and mountain bike when conditions are acceptable. However, the buildings will remain closed. To ensure best practices in relation to the COVID–19 outbreak, no youth lessons will be offered. At this time, we ask that you follow recommendations from the CDC and state as you use the facility. Suggestions and restrictions around the coronavirus are ever changing. Our plan may change at any time based on the recommendations of the CDC and the state. Please check our website and/or Facebook page.
The Annual Meeting had been planned for Monday, April 20th. However, due to the rapidly changing environment, we are currently looking into the possibility of a virtual meeting. Stay tuned for more information.
We have noticed an increased number of nonmembers, especially teenagers, coming into the facility and congregating on the ski jumps. It is not safe for people to be on the jumps, and we have incurred thousands of dollars in damages due to vandalism. There are now cameras on the jumps, and we will be monitoring them daily. Police will also be driving through the facility. To help deter this behavior, gates will be locked at dusk. We are currently evaluating controlled access systems, please watch for more information. If you have teenagers, please let them know no one is allowed on the ski jumps. If you see people on the jumps, please feel free to remind them that the ski jumps are to be used only for ski jumping during scheduled programming.
Blackhawk has amazing mountain biking trails and during this time of social isolation, it is a great way to stay active. In order to keep the trails in excellent condition, remember not to ride on them when the trails are wet. Trail conditions can be found on our website under “Mountain Bike Trail Conditions.”
