Fall Wood Splitting Workday Oct 26

Thanks so much to everyone who volunteered with us October 12 to get a ton of work done before we get SNOW! Next up is our annual wood splitting and stacking day, October 26 from 10am-12pm. We are looking for volunteers that have experience running the wood splitter and want to channel their inner lumberjack to prep wood for our indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Please contact Kelsey Berg (kelsey.berg@blackhawkskiclub.org) to sign up. Details are here: https://blackhawkskiclub.org/news/october-member-workdays

Do you have a skilled trade you could share with the club? Looking for another way to volunteer? We are looking for members to help with some specific projects - residing, painting, digging footings and setting concrete. Please contact Kelsey Berg (kelsey.berg@blackhawkskiclub.org) for more information on these projects.

Reminder: Keep Your Parking Tags and Add New Stickers

Remember to keep your parking tags and add a new sticker, which you’ll receive in the mail once you renew your membership. We appreciate your patience as our volunteers get your car tags in the mail. In the meantime, you can print a copy of the receipt you received via email and place it on your dashboard. Thanks!

Openings for Ski Patrol Training at Blackhawk in December

The Blackhawk Ski Club has a long tradition of members and parents getting involved in many ways. For some, it has meant becoming a Ski Patroller at our club.

If you have ever considered becoming a patroller, we will be kicking off our toboggan training program in December. In this fun and free class, you will refine your ski/snowboard skills and learn what it takes to transport a patient down the hill safely.

The classes will be held on Monday evenings from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will last approximately ten weeks. If you have ever thought about patrolling, now is the perfect time to get involved.

Patroller benefits include:

  • Give back to the sport most of us are intensely passionate about

  • Learn and get certified in first aid and safety through Outdoor Emergency Care classes

  • Improve your skiing or snowboarding abilities

  • Make friends, and share in the camaraderie of caring people that make up our patrol and club

  • Enjoy the many perks of being a member of Blackhawk Ski Patrol which includes a reduced family membership to Blackhawk Ski Club

  • Enjoy membership benefits of The National Ski Patrol including continued education, discounts on outdoor gear, and discounts at some ski resorts

The time commitment for being a Blackhawk Ski Patroller is much less than other ski hills and resorts in our region, making this a great option for those who want to be a Ski Patroller, but have limited time.

If you are interested in participating in this class or would like more information, please email Rob Kudrle, Blackhawk Patrol Director, at skipatrol@blackhawkskiclub.org

You can also visit our Patrol website page on the Blackhawk website for more information. https://blackhawkskiclub.org/ski-patrol

Nordic Skiing Updates

Nordic ski fitting with Bjorn from Out There Nordic is on Tue, Oct 29. Bring your own gear to see if it fits and/or come and see what he has to sell.  Our Nordic Ski Team needs most of the after-school slots, so please try to fill in earlier in the day if you can. Blackhawk ball caps will also be available! Here’s the link to sign up: Out There Nordic ski fitting and store.

Please note: Nordic Kids Ski Fitting is separate from Out There and will be communicated to NK families soon!

The Mt. Borah Blackhawk Nordic ski store is open until 11/5. Order your Blackhawk Nordic apparel before the snow flies! https://blackhawknordic.itemorder.com/

Our Nordic Workday will be November 9.

Help Expand Nordic Ski Opportunities! We’re out of space in our small Nordic trailer and are looking to expand and improve ski and boot storage, our ski hand-out process, and maybe even create a warm space to watch lessons. We need your help! First, we need everyone’s patience as we work through another season in the small trailer. We also need a fundraising coordinator to help shape the future of Nordic skiing at Blackhawk. We’re also looking for a private lesson coordinator this season! Contact xckids@blackhawkskiclub.org to help.

Biathlon Updates

Biathlon is well into its fall training season and gearing up for race season. Our winter race season will begin in November. The Blackhawk Biathlon program hosted a running race on Sunday October 13th. There were 12 youth and 3 masters who participated in 6k, 5k or 4k events. All of our youth did very well and it served as a good pre-season training race.

Get Your Winter Gear!

It’s time to stock up on winter gear, and what better time than at many local resales, which start this weekend!

The Tyrol Resale is October 20th.

Chalet Ski and Patio will be doing season long rentals again.
