February 2024 Newsletter

All of our Alpine ski & snowboard hills are open; as always, please follow ski patrol instructions/signage as to where you may downhill ski and snowboard! Please help us keep the trails in great shape by not walking or hiking with them in regular shoes or boots; please use only skis, snowshoes, and fat bikes on the trails until the snow melts!

Women's Alpine Ski Clinic 2/11

We are offering an alpine ski clinic for women taught by women! Do you want to improve your skiing or take it to the next level? Want to ski with friends and make some new friends? Need some tips to ski longer or more efficiently? The clinic is this Sunday, February 11 and intended for members who can already ski Hills 1 and 2. There are 3 spots in the first session from 12-2pm and 5 spots in the session from 2:30-4:30pm. Cost is $60/per session. Email kelsey.berg@blackhawkskiclub.org to sign up.

Snowmaking

The recent rain and warm weather have taken a toll on our snow. Some trails are getting thin and starting to show dirt. The snowmaking team will be making snow for the last time this season sometime after Valentines Day when temperatures cooperate. Please be aware of snowmaking and grooming equipment on the trails between Feb 14 and Feb 19. We can always use snowmaking help and no experience is necessary. Contact Rick Hardy at rick.hardy@blackhawkskiclub.org if you would like to join the snowmaking team.

Winter Carnival 2/17

Our annual Winter Carnival will be held on 2/17 from 12:30-3:30pm. Enjoy meeting other Blackhawk members over snacks and drinks. We’ll have snow-related games and activities, too. If you can volunteer to help out, please sign up or contact Kelsey Berg at kelsey.berg@blackhawkskiclub.org.

Skijoring Sundays 4-6pm

Skijoring (cross-country skiing while being pulled by a dog) now takes place every Sunday from 4-6pm! Meet at the maintenance barn--appropriate skijoring equipment is required. Please contact Guy Perez at guy.perez@blackhawkskiclub.org for more information.

Hugh Jass Fat Bike Race 2/24

Blackhawk is hosting the Hugh Jass Fat Bike race on Saturday, February 24th. This is a great event to participate in or to watch! For more information, or to sign up, go to: https://hughjass.bike/races/race-5

Ski Jumping Update

We are hoping to make more snow on our ski jumps the weekend of Feb 17, and once we have our smaller hills ready, we will reach out to families and let them know when the make-up dates for intro classes will be held.
