Capital Campaign Details
We have already made several improvements for the 25-26 season:
- New snow making wand on the cross-country trails, generously donated by one of our members.
- New rope tow motor is installed on hill #2
- New doors on the maintenance building
- New website (under construction)
Next, our awesome Nordic program:
- Youth Ski Team (70 skiers), Nordic Kids lesson program (150 skiers), Nordic feeder for one of the largest biathlon youth teams in the nation, Nordic Combined support, adult lessons, special events
- Best human-made snow (110 days of skiing in 24-25) in the area putting Blackhawk on the map for new members
- Snow making allowed Blackhawk to host Nordic and biathlon races including the Wisconsin Nordic Ski League Southern Conference meet with 130 skiers competing.
Now, our situation:
- Despite our growth, we rely upon the infrastructure in place in the early 2000’s.
- Our Nordic Kids equipment trailer still holds many of the skis donated by Sue Remington as well as new classic skis, skate skis and many more boots to accommodate a program that started with a handful of kids and now serves 150.
- Ski team storage is in a crawl space under the West Chalet. And while dry and no mice, moving hundreds of skis in and out of the space is a major headache (literally and physically!).
- Equipment needs during practice are far away from the trails and any small fix usually results in lost practice for a youth team skier.
And now, our plan:

- New Nordic building near the Siberian Hwy trail
- Warm place for members to change into their boots and not track across dirt
- Heated storage means Nordic Kids will have dry boots to start off their lesson.
- Ski Team Storage and warm up space included in building
- Storage for small machinery which will free up space in the maintenance shed for the new groomer.
- Lighting and parking will also be improved.
And our surprise! 2020 Prinoth Husky arrived late November!

- Replaces our 1980’s Piston Bully groomer (aka “small groomer”)
- Small groomer is needed for moving snow making equipment
- Small groomer also needed to groom the narrow tow paths for alpine skiing and ski jumping
- 2020 Prinoth Husky will be able to groom Nordic trails with standard corduroy and set classic tracks consistently.
Finally, the numbers:
- Total cost of these infrastructure investments (groomer and storage facility) is $275,000, a substantial portion of our annual budget.
- We are financing a portion of the equipment
- Club by-laws do not allow for financing new construction or building improvements.
- Raising at least $150,000 will set the stage for sustainable financing for the groomer and purchase of the materials to build the Nordic storage facility.
