Blackhawk GET Outdoors Summer Program
for 2nd-5th Grade Children

Blackhawk Ski Club is excited to offer a new program for its members: "Gain Enrichment Together (GET) Outdoors." The program will offer 2, 1-week summer camps at the Ski Club this summer:

Science and Move (June 18th - 22nd): Science is experimental, exciting and exploratory. This camp is designed to develop interest and excitement through hands-on science activities that are fun, educational and interactive. The students will be working in small and whole group settings.

Creative Dramatics and Move (June 25th - 29th): Creative Dramatics is an informal, improvisational form of drama that encourages students to imagine, enact and role-play. This camp is designed to enhance student reading, speech, creativity and social skills while having fun. The students will be working in small and whole group settings. There will be daily performances for all to enjoy.

Both camps are geared towards children entering 2nd - 5th grade who are looking for opportunities to gain enrichment in science and creative dramatics in a social environment. Each camp will run for one week, 9-11am, Monday through Friday at Blackhawk Ski Club. GET Outdoors is run by Arin Oppermann, Bridget Remington, and Natalie Fryda, club members and Sunset Ridge Elementary School teachers.

The cost for each camp is $150. The fee is reduced to $130 for referring a friend. Non-Blackhawk members are invited to participate in either camp with an additional $10 summer membership fee. This membership fee provides membership benefits throughout the summer.

Spring Has Sprung in a Big Way!

Blackhawk has closed operations for winter sports for the 2011-12 winter season. We hope that everyone enjoyed all of the snow in this very warm and very different kind of winter.

Please take advantage of what Blackhawk has to offer this summer. The club has a summer ski jumping program, and is planning a summer biathlon training program, both of which will start later this spring. The trail system on the club grounds is great for mountain biking or hiking so there is no excuse for not getting outside to enjoy this warm weather.

Unlimited Family Memberships

If you are not a member, but are interested in an unlimited family membership for the 2012-13 season, please give us your contact information (click here). You will be notified by e-mail in August 2012 about registration procedures and information for the next winter season.

About the Club

Mission

Blackhawk Ski Club has a mission to teach young people life-long competitive, outdoor sports. These sports include: alpine skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, cross country skiing, biathlon, Nordic combined, and mountain biking. Our club is incorporated as a non-stock, not-for-profit organization located in the Town of Middleton, Wisconsin, immediately west of Madison. We are a group of families and single members who thoroughly enjoy outdoor sports.

Founded by Ski Jumpers

Our club was founded in 1947 when a group of ski jumpers purchased thirty acres of land west of Madison to build a large ski jump. They had been using Muir Knoll on the University of Wisconsin campus to ski jump, but the campus location was getting crowded as more people were returning from World War II and wanting to jump. Soon after the initial purchase, these jumpers purchased an additional thirty acres.

Land, Facilities, Equipment

On our sixty acres of land, we downhill and cross country ski, ski jump on our five jumps, and bike around our five miles of mountain bike trails. We offer an after-school cross country ski program for disadvantaged youth. We have an active Ski Patrol that is affiliated with the National Ski Patrol System to promote safe skiing. Over the years, we have built facilities and acquired maintenance equipment, including two heated chalets, snowmaking equipment, and machines to keep the slopes well groomed.

Active Participation and Volunteerism

The club has thrived because of the active participation and volunteerism of our members. We do not have employees and we operate primarily with volunteer guidance and help. We are open for members only. We limit our family memberships so that our facilities are not overcrowded. We operate Monday afternoon, Thursday, Friday evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday. Our family membership offers great skiing right here in the Madison area. There are no additional fees or daily use charges for open skiing. There are additional fees for optional programs including youth programs and ski instruction.

We welcome members to participate in our club right from the beginning. Whatever is happening in our club - We make it happen! Please join us.
